How might we re-imagine dust cleaning through ethnography and generative research?
- A company in the home environment space wanted to tackle the issue of dust cleaning by implementing a technology not typically used in this context.
- To design the experience, we dove into the world of our customers, visiting them in their homes in cities across the US, and understanding their relationship to dust and cleaning.
- Using an approach combining traditional ethnography with experimental storyboarded concepts, we were able to identify the design and experience elements needed to bridge the gap between the client's technology and the problem of dust cleaning.
- We then continued to develop the concept through experiential testing with users, who through simulating the future experience helped guide the design - from materials, to interactions and use-cases.
